4-Figure Grid Reference. A 4-figure grid reference contains 4 numbers. For example, you might be given the number 3422. The first two numbers are called the easting, which is the number you would

identify a 1000 square meter grid square. Six digits identify a 100-meter grid square. Eight digits identify a 10-meter grid square. To locate a point by grid reference is a simple matter. We follow a simple rule of map reading: READ RIGHT AND UP 507 5. COMPASS TERMS AND CONCEPTS

How you go about finding your latitude and longitude depends to some extent on whether you want to know your 4-digit grid square or your 6-digit grid square. Finding a 6-digit grid square requires considerably more precision in latitude and longitude. The 4-digit grid squares cover a pretty big area, while the 6-digit grid square is fairly small.
It is common practice under certain situations not to specify the first two components of the MGRS coordinate string. For example, if all users who are exchanging MGRS coordinates are working within the same grid zone designation or 100,000-meter square, it is not necessary to specify these components, because all participating users know they are all working within the same area.

There are two main types of grid reference: four-figure grid reference, such as '19 45', indicates a 1 km by 1 km square on the map; and. six-figure grid reference, such as '192 454', indicates a 100 m by 100 m square on the map. Sometimes you may also come across: eight-figure grid reference, such as '1926 4548', indicates a 10 m Format labels with tags. In the Contents pane, expand the map frame, right-click a grid, and choose Properties. The Element pane appears. In the Element pane, click the Components tab , and select a component to format. The following components use formatting tags: In the Format text box, modify the labels using tags.
Making Sense of the Grid. An MGRS 8-digit grid coordinate will be expressed like this: 19TCG 3061 9196. Remember, we're taking a projection of the entire Earth down to an object the size of a hot tub. Reading from left to right, you'll be able to find a point as small as a ten-meter square from this number.

8 digits - 23480647 - locates a point with a precision of 10-meters (the size of a modest home). 10 digits - 2348306479 - locates a point with a precision of 1-meter (within a parking spot). In the following example, the Washington Monument is described as being located at grid 23480647 (think 2348 / 0647).
These are "grid coordinates," and while a set of four-digit grid coordinates IDs one whole square, a set of six-digit grid coordinates focuses you in on a 100-square-meter area within the square; and eight digits gets you to 10 square meters, and so on into infinity. Get it? Great. I try to have a lot of six-digit-grid-coordinate conversations. Determine the grid coordinates to the desired accuracy, an eight-digit grid being the preferred accuracy for our purposes. Straightedge Method: To accurately find your position, the successful
How accurate is a 8 digit grid coordinate? 6 digits - 234064 - locates a point with a precision of 100-meters (a soccer field size area). 8 digits - 23480647 - locates a point with a precision of 10-meters (the size of a modest home). What is a grid reference example? Grid References Example A grid reference is a combination of two
For longitude, the decimal part is .214. .868 x 60 = 52.08 minutes, written 52.08'. .214 x 60 = 12.84 minutes, written 12.84'. 3. Write your latitude and longitude in degrees and minutes. After finding the precise coordinates in degrees and minutes for a specific location, write them out in the correct order.
